Hello , Im back!
So I wanted to share and show you guys my latest project that I have been working on and have developed a passion for. It was for a fashion styling and photography course that I did recently and omg did I underestimate the amount of thought that is put in-order to develop and create 1 PICTURE , so I had to repeat that thought process 12 times to develop 12 pictures lol. Lets just say , in this project I was the photographer , the stylist and the creative director. From the hair to the makeup , to the angle of the shot , location and of course the lighting , I was in charge of thinking of it and picking it all and of course behind every decision there is a reason. 😏
So for this project I decided I wanted to do something outside the box , something different , something lively , something natural .. thats in the moment!
Color blocking is where it all started. What is color blocking you ask?
Color blocking is the use of contrasting blocks or panels of solid, typically bright color. the exploration of taking colors that are opposites on the color wheel and pairing them together to make interesting and complementary color combinations. The trend originated from the artwork of Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian. It is also considered color-blocking even if the colors are not direct opposites on the color wheel. For example, yellow and orange are right next to each other, but adding purple (a color on the opposite of the wheel) creates a color-blocked outfit.
So this was my original theme of my project inorder to project the colorful visuals that I imagined for these photos. Photographers like Tony kelly and Sergi Pons had an influence on my project , with their use of color in the images and how spontaneous they are.
As I said before , I wanted something in the moment and different , so I decided that I will capture my model having fun and capturing those laughs in the moment so it could give off a positive vibe that will go with the color blocking theme. Oddly enough , A book by the name the tipping point actually had an influence on my choice of having the model laugh and smile rather than the usual model pout.
A book you say ? heres how:
From a book I was reading earlier about market- ing, called the tipping point, triggered a thought in my head that I can relate to my idea. In the book it was talking about motor mimicry, “if you show show people pictures of a smiling face or a frown ing face, they’ll smile or frown back” (Gladwell, 2000 , p84) as emotions are contagious , I wanted my style idea to spread positivity to the audience and also enable them to associate the brand to the way they will and want to feel. Mimicry is how were infected and infect other with emotions.
“all of us have had our spirts picked up by being around somebody in a good mood... we normally think of the expressions on our face as the re ection of an inner state” (Gladwell, 2000, p85). people and their emotions have a huge influence on others.
Psychology plays a huge role in marketing and influencing the reader as it gives you a scope of how your audience thinks and why. As a huge lover of psychology , I loved how that part of the book that really backed up my idea and enabled me to put an idea and theory behind it.
So that is how I backed up my idea and made it sound smart in my project haha.
Finally , I wanted to make the model interact with something and then i thought of baking , everyone loves baking , whether it turns out to be a fail or not the process is just fun aint it? 😏 So that is why i picked a baking theme in my project , because it will make the pictures look fun and in the moment and well ..... funky!!!
